Male partner pregnant with baby of transgender couple in Ecuador making ...

A couple in Ecuador is making history with a unique pregnancy: The father-to-be is carrying the baby of his transgender partner.
Fernando Machado and Diane Rodríguez announced their pregnancy, believed to be the first of its kind in South America, on social media earlier this month and it's received widespread attention in a continent that has seen a sudden explosion in the rights and visibility of trans people.
Rodríguez, who was born Luis, is one of Ecuador's most-prominent LGBT activists and says she and her Venezuelan-born partner, whose birth name was María, decided to publicize the pregnancy to help change attitudes in the staunchly Roman Catholic society. Although both take hormones, neither has undergone gender-reassignment surgery, so the child-to-be was conceived the old-fashioned way with no known medical complications to date.
"We're trying to break the myths about transsexuality," Rodríguez told the Associated Press.
So far, church leaders have remained silent, something that Rodríguez says both surprises and pleases here.
"The church is always criticizing gays and homosexuals for adopting children, so it would be a contradiction to criticize us for giving birth naturally," she said from her home in Guayaquil.

Muslim engineer raped female colleague for five days 'to convert her to ...

An Indian man has been accused of kidnapping and raping a female colleague for five days to force her to convert to Islam.

Engineer Syen Emad Hasan, 30, proposed to the 27-year-old woman but she rejected him and said her family would not allow 'an inter-religious marriage', police said.

He harassed her until she cut short a work trip to Dubai. When she returned home to confront Hasan, he abducted her, locked her up at his house and took away her phone.

Hasan and the woman, who has not been named, worked together at a Dell computer repairs shop in Gachibowli, Hyderabad.

When she left the company and moved to Dubai in August, he 'continued to torture her on social media', police said.

'The woman told us she was forced to talk to Hasan as he showed her photos and videos of them together in Hyderabad, and threatened to send them to her father, said Inspector Ravinder.

He added: 'He [Hasan] also demanded that she send inappropriate photos of her.'

When she returned home to Hyderabad to confront him, he snatched her away to his flat in the al-Hasanath colony, Indian Express reported.

'He took three days’ leave and brutalised and sexually assaulted her,' said an officer of Hyderabad's 'She Team', a police unit tasked with investigating sexual assault.

They added: 'He threatened to continue doing so until she agreed to marry him after converting to Islam. He even threatened to set her on fire and strangle her.

Although the researchers have dubbed it Ninja lanternshark, its official name is Etmopterus benchleyi - named after the novelist Peter Benchley who wrote Jaws.

Miss Universe winner 2015 is wrongly announced by Steve Harvey

Miss Universe pageant host Steve Harvey makes huge gaffe, names wrong winner

Miss Universe pageant host Steve Harvey announced the wrong winner at the end of Sunday night's big show in Las Vegas and was forced to make an embarrassing apology.

After announcing Miss USA, Olivia Jordan, as the third runner-up, Harvey initially named Miss Colombia, Ariadna Gutierrez Arevalo, as the night's big winner, relegating the remaining contestant, Miss Philippines, Pia Alonzo Wurzbach, to the second runner-up spot.

But after Arevalo received the crown and a bouquet of flowers, Harvey announced he had made an error and that Wurzbach was in fact the winner.

A stunned Wurzbach, who had taken her place with the other contestants behind Arevalo, then walked out to center stage. Last year's Miss Universe, Colombia's Paulina Vega, then removed the crown from Avrevalo's head and placed it on Wurtzbach.

With both pageant contestants standing at the front of the stage, the show concluded.

Harvey, who was hosting the contest for the first time, held up the card announcing the order of finishers for Fox network cameras to see up close afterward. He said he re-read the card and noticed it said "first runner-up" next to the Colombia contestant's name before he asked producers if he had made a mistake. Talking with reporters afterward, Harvey and an executive for pageant owner WME-IMG called it human error.

"Nobody feels worse about this than me," Harvey said.

In addition to his on-air apology, Harvey expressed contrition on social media. However, he initially misspelled the home countries of both contestants before also fixing that.

Wurtzbach later said she felt conflicting emotions as the mistake happened: joy when she was told she had indeed won, concern for Aravelo and confusion at the whole situation.

Wurtzbach said she tried to approach Aravelo onstage afterward but the Colombian was crying and surrounded by a crowd of women. She said she realized it was, "probably bad timing."

Even before Sunday night's oops moment, the pageant was involved in another controversy when a backlash against the pageant's former owner Donald Trump led Univision to pull out of the broadcast and the businessman to sell it in September.

Trump was quick to weigh in on Sunday's error, declaring the mistake would "never have happened" during his time as owner.

Shortly after Sunday night's confusion, Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos tweeted a message on his official account to Ariadna Gutierrez. "For us, you will continue being miss universe! We are very proud!"

Philippines presidential spokesman Edwin Lacierda didn't address the controversial win but said, "in bagging this victory, Ms. Wurtzbach not only serves as a tremendous source of pride for our people, but also holds up the banner of our women and of our country-as a true representative of what the Filipina can achieve."

Miss Puerto Rico suspended for anti-Islam rant accusing Muslims of 'terrorizing' the USA

Miss Puerto Rico Destiny Velez has been indefinitely suspended by the official Miss America Organization after sending a series of offensive anti-Muslim messages on Twitter.

Velez, 20, launched an anti-Muslim tirade at filmmaker Michael Moore on Thursday after he shared a photo of himself outside of Trump Tower in New York City with a sign reading: 'We are all Muslim.'

Moore's photo was in response to Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump's proposal to ban Muslims from entering the US, which inspired the hashtag #WeAreAllMuslim on social media.

The former beauty queen sent a number of tweets directed to Moore including one that said Muslims have 'terrorizing agendas,' according to a grab of the tweets obtained by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
